relaxartation adult colouring books
Colouring books for adults are a relatively new phenomenon and many people are still unaware of the benefits that can be achieved by a little time spent doing something as simple as colouring. I first became aware of the terms wellbeing and mindfulness when I attended my first pain clinic. Thankfully it became quite clear that they believed in treating the whole person, not just the pain. The root cause of my pain, the arthritis meant that yoga and tai-chi were not really an option. Meditation just does not appeal to me, but when Mindfulness was explained to me I realised that making a few minor adjustments in how I approached life in general might work, and it has. The tips or steps listed below I follow and they help. The colouring came later for me and I use it to help me work on my novels.
Different terms are often used to describe adult colouring, with mindfulness and art-therapy being the most popular at this moment in time. Personally I believe relaxartation better describes the precious moments spent relaxing and colouring. Adult colouring cannot be described as mindfulness in itself though, as it is merely one of many methods used to achieve a state of mindfulness. We have all seen movies where a traumatized child is given some paper and pencils and asked to draw as means to more easily communicate. The general consensus of the medical community is that many of us communicate our subconscious feelings much better through art rather than the written or spoken word, hence the term art-therapy. Removing the need to structure a picture or drawing by simply shading or colouring allows the colourer to relax on a subconscious level. Formal Mindfulness Disciplines Meditation, Tai-Chi and Yoga are sometimes referred to as Formal Mindfulness as participants make a deliberate effort to pay attention to their breathing or the sensations they are experiencing in other parts of their body by either sitting silently or by making a series of slow movemets, postures with an emphasis on the awarenes of breathing Mindfulness Mindfulness is a term that is often used incorrectly. Mindfulness is an approach, or the discipline by which we live our daily lives. Many individual things can be mindful but embracing the five key points will bring us to mindfulness. 5 Steps to mindfulness
